Two years later...

Adeniums will eventually flower if not earlier or much later than two years depending on how it's being cared for. Though they can flower in different varieties, make note that even if you get a seed of different types of Adeniums for specific color or appearance, there are possibilities they would bloom the original Adenium pink color/appearance instead.

In the following photos are Adeniums from 2014 and another batch mixed in that had started to grown in 2015.

I was checking on them a couple of days ago and what I found was exciting. After all, who isn't waiting for their hard work to bloom. I am a bit worried if they will bloom their original flowers instead of the ones I expected when I brought these specific type of seeds. I'm not sure which are which yet, so I have to wait until they start to bloom.

Because they are all bunched up and being cluttered, I decided that they need to be repotted even if one of them are in bloom. If I don't, I may not have time to get to it later on and the pots may break from the expanding roots.

Dry Winter Rest and Dormancy for Orchids

Dry Winter Rest

Dry winter rest is something that happens every winter in order for certain types of orchids to stay healthy and provide blooms in the coming spring. Usually it takes place from Halloween till Valentines day where we do not water these orchids unless it shows sign of shriveling (should be at least once or twice, if not none.)

The orchids that needs these dry winter rest are to my knowledge the Dendrobium Nobile. The rest of the rest of the other Dendrobiums as far as I know are allowed to be waters throughout the season without any problems. There are some people out there that does provide dry winter rest for these orchids, but it is absolutely not necessary.

Adenium Seedlings One Year Later.....

Each pair of leaves I've observed comes up each week, it's pretty easy to keep tab at this point in how many weeks old they are. By the second month after they had sprouted, it's time to transplant them. In order to know when to transplant adenium seedlings, they have to have at least six true leaves or more for the transplanting to be a success. However sometimes the plant may go into shock and you should expect some lost unless you're lucky enough to have lost none.

Adenium Seedlings

The seedlings were growing faster than the first week, I notice the saran wrap was starting to drip onto the first set of leaves of some of the seedlings so I  took it off. It caused a bit of damage on the leaves when I got back home from work, I suspect water damage.

Adenium Germination

Around 3-4 days seedlings would start to sprout through the light layer of the soil. I want to introduce them to the sun already but of course through many research, a lot of people has suggested that it  wasn't good to idea give them direct/full sun. So as precaution I am using the mesh curtain more often when I put them out and double layer the curtain some more for safety when the sun gets real high. I wouldn't want to burn or stress out the seedlings. They are still undergoing artificial light during the nights.  Not sure if they should get 24/7 hours of light now they are seedlings due to the consideration on the amount of energy they are using to grow. I have lost 2 seeds...due to irresponsible reasons.

Sowing Adenium Seeds

Some of you may be interested in sowing adenium seeds and the best time to do it is in the summer. This is my second time in doing so, the first time was not a success either because I over watered and caused the seed to rot or because it's been baked in the sun. Either way, we all learn from our mistakes. On May 5, 2014 I sowed in sixteen adenium seeds, each four pairs are different species that I've gotten online. I do not know if they will all sprout like their parent plants, but that's what I'm going to find out when they start to bloom in the future (if they survive). From what I've researched, good seeds should be able to germinate from 4-7 days if not 10. Usually seeds that do not sprout within the range of days will not germinate into a seedling. If they do, they will likely be weak plants.
